Capacitors in Parallel

When capacitors are connected in parallel (see figure below), the equivalent (replacement) capacitance for the parallel combination is given by

        Ceq = C1 + C2 + C3 +…

NOTE:  For capacitors in parallel:

(1) the voltage across all capacitors is the same

         V1 = V2 = V3 = … + Veq    and

(2) the charge on Ceq is the sum of the charges on all of the parallel capacitors
